A chain of events led me to doing something proactive about helping to find children who are missing from their families.

First I saw a news item which ended by the woman being interviewed quickly stating the address of the Missing Children website www.missingkids.co.uk. I went straight to my PC, found the site and scrolled through photographs of children who had been missing days, months and years.

Many of the children had been missing longer than they had been at home! What if that was a child of mine, how would I handle such unbearable distress?

Then, I was on the market and I passed a woman clutching a large and well-loved teddy bear. I thought it odd. I saw her again talking and clutching. I did nothing and said nothing. A few moments later I wondered whether the woman was a mother whose child had been missing for years.

Most of the time all I can do when I hear of abductions and disappearances is make sympathetic noises - yes and pray, but this time I am acting by putting the Missing Children link on our website and asking you to do the same. If you have not got a website you can spread the word about missingkids.com on your Blog or MSN or even as an email signature is. Anything!

If we can do nothing more than raise awareness of the children who are missing then at least we are doing something.
