The Equal Opp Shop

Author: Margaret Simms

Child care in the UK is amongst the best in the world. Sure there is never enough - but we are working on that! At ProCEEdc.com we are also working on putting together a resource to support Equality and Diversity modules for Early Years and Childcare students.

We would like you to tell us about your experiences of childcare in other countries. Your valuable contributions will be included on these pages.

Gujarat -  India

Self-employed women in Gujarat, who are united in their desire to see child care available as an entitlement for all self-employed women, have founded FORCES (Forum for Creches and child care Services) which is an alliance of 50 child care organisations.

FORCES are urging the government to "locate creches in the primary schools in the villages. This will encourage young children to start going to school and will provide much needed space for the child care centers. While this approach has official approval at the state-level there is much resistance to it at the village level from school principals and teachers who regard such integration as nuisance."
