Login to childcare forums any day of the week and you will find early years and childcare workers airing their grievances about feeling under-valued, under paid and over-stretched. Researchers agree that all of this helps to maintain the low-status reputation of work with young children. Yet, their are many highly qualified and experienced early years and childcare professionals who are appreciated by their colleagues, managers and the families they serve.
There has never been a better time for childcare workers to speak out about the quality of work and excellent early years and childcare practice that they witness on a daily basis: Childcare assessors, nurser owners - you know what I mean; you see some outstanding practice in the course of your assessing duties.
Don't let the 'low-status' reputation of the whole childcare sector rub off on you or your childcare provision. Make sure that every one knows how good you are. It's good for your CV, good for your childcare setting and ultiimately good for the early years and childcare sector workforce.
