Building Inter-professional Relationships 3 September 2008

Everyone is talking aboutmulti-agency working; as faciliators of workforce development are we putting our word into action? Effective multi-agency working is achievable when we begin to build and maintain strong inter-professional relationships.

To actively promote multi-agency working ProCEEd had dedicated this page to professionals who wish to showcase their job role as an invitation for parents, professionals and students who work with children and families to link up.

Send a paragraph or two about what you do, so that parents, professionals and students who work with children to help build new and stronger inter-professional relationships and enhance multi-agency working.

Ealing Mencap

Ealing Mencap is primarily an agency for adults with Learning Disabilities.  Over the years Patti Vincent, Advocacy Coordinator has been asked to support parents who have had their babies removed at birth or soon after.  Patti now has experience in the process that does (sometimes should) happen when this occurs.  She has made a valuable contact in a solicitor who specialises in children's legislation and who has an excellent understanding of learning disability.  Patti goes to meetings, court, and spends time with parents explaining complex legal jargon, talking through issues as they arise.

Currently Patti is supporting a parent with the Letter-box contact, and acting as a go-between with statutory authorities.

Barnados

I work with Barnardo's one of the five major children's charities in the Uk, and I manage a Family Support Service which is based in Midsomer Norton, and works in a partnership with First Steps and Southside in Bath.

We cover the whole of Bath and North East Somerset, offering direct work with families in their homes, parenting groups, community 'Stay and Play' groups, and a specialist service for children and families affected by domestic abuse, which offers group work advice and support, play therapy and consultation. We also support a Parents Voice group, which offers parents and carers a forum to influence change in B&NES child care provision.

has some good advice about Family Rights Group

Family Rights Group

Family Rights Group is the charity in England and Wales that advocates and campaigns for families whose children are involved with, or require, social care services. We provide confidential telephone advice and support for parents and family members, including grandparents who are raising grandchildren who cannot live at home. We work to increase the voice children and families have in the services they use, and promote policies and practices that improve children's lives.

Our Advice line is open from Monday to Friday,

10am - 3.30 pm: 0800 7311696.

The Nottingham and Notts Advocacy Alliance

The Nottingham and Notts Advocacy Alliance is an award winning charity that has been supporting vulnerable adults since 1995. Based in the North of Nottinghamshire we have paid advocates that work with groups or on a one to one, supporting people to speak out for their rights and choices. Our work inevitably involves us supporting partners who have dependents and families and are working through issues relating to their situation. We tender for additional work and we have delivered several diverse projects. Our charity number is 1059007.
